It’s the Magical Moments…that’s how we describe Thimbleberry Mountain Farm.
We were living in the suburbs of a large city, raising two children, one of whom is autistic. Life was, simply put, chaotic.
Before our son’s diagnosis, we knew absolutely nothing about autism. But overnight, that sure did change. We went into information overload – how, when, what’s next and what does this mean for the future of our family.
Helping to support our autistic son and his sibling meant learning so much about his new needs and doing what was necessary to make life easier for our family overall.
As with many autistic children and adults, managing sensory overload became a priority.
Life had shifted: driving in the car for hours, just to bring calm, became part of the daily routine. Ensuring we stocked enough of the very few food items our son would eat was vital. But then, another change: we decided to head for the hills – literally!
We were brought to the mountains of North Idaho, and it’s here that Thimbleberry Mountain Farm was born.
Once we arrived on our small mountain top, we realized how ready we were for the connection to the natural world and just how much nature impacts the nurturing of sensory needs.
We left alarm clocks behind and tuned into the natural rhythm and flow of the changing seasons. Life and the sensory overload became lighter.
For us, the best part of learning on the farm has been, what we like to call, The School of Life and the Art of Living. Immersing ourselves in nature allowed us to discover more about who we are and how we are all connected. That connection is to each other, to the forests, to the trees, to the wildlife and so much more. It’s taken us to a core understanding of sustainability, food source, and how all parts support the whole.
As we began to recognize the healing benefits this life was having on our family, we decided we wanted to share the beautiful and inspiring things that have been of help to us.
We love the calming effect of dried lavender grown on our farm, the grounding energy of the crystals and the many uses of fiber from our alpaca family, such as supporting our resident birds as they build their own family nests here on the farm.
Our freeze dried snacks are the cornerstone of the product line at Thimbleberry Mountain Farm. It’s a staple in our pantry and we hope you will try them for yours. These healthy, super nutritious and flavorful treats are especially great for kids with sensory eating issues.
